The 30th Birthday Party
The official birthday get together came almost
a week after the actual birthday but it worked out well since I could celebrate
with a friend who had one close to mine.
My 30th
birthday was on March 8 as you know if you read my 5 part series on my first 30
years earlier in this blog. The actual party wasn't held until Saturday, March
13. I asked my friend Jaime a couple months back if she wanted to have a joint
get together since her 27th fell on March 14. I thought it would give us an
opportunity to celebrate together and with our mutual friends.

We also had a third person, Laura, join us as
well. Her 25th fell on March 1 if I'm not mistaken. Laura is someone Jaime had
worked with while she was in grad school at SIU. I had never met her before but
she was thoughtful enough to even bring me a card. Unfortunately she got away
from the party before I got any pics of her on the camera, so for now, she
remains a mystery to all of you. Although it was discussed how she looks like
someone you would know....so just imagine someone you think you would know and
BOOM...there you have... one mental picture of
Laura. Several of us went to Alongi's beforehand for dinner. Then
we migrated across the street to the Elks Lodge for the party. A few gifts were
exchanged. (Mindy, the silly string gift backfired on me...Jaime got a hold of
it and went wild on me. I was defenseless too since I was high from the vapor
coming out of the can and blowing in my face) Then Jaime whipped out the cake
she had made for the three of us. We each had our own section and age written in
icing on it. Knowing the Apple
Computer fanatic I am, she included an Apple logo in my section. We
cut the cake up, had a piece, got some drinks and milled around for a little
bit. One of my oldest friends, David Searby, had stopped in for an hour to say
hi and shoot the breeze. We traded scandalous gossip that left shocked
expressions on both our faces. Then David had to go on his way.
Shortly we headed back to the
card table for some games and to play some pool. I cemented my standing as all
time worst pool player in the history of the game, scratching 5 times in one
game of 8 ball. Pretty much the entire Card Night
crew was present and we spent the rest of the evening playing cards. I wish a
few more of my friends I had invited could have made it but I was happy to be
with the ones that did. I placed a
page up of a
few photos I took over on the other part of my site. Update: I
removed the 2 movies I mention here. I was doing some spring cleaning and
deleted them to make more room on the server. I turned some of them into a
movie slideshow as well with some music added. Then I thought I could try to be
a little more clever with it and began to play around with it in iMovie . I got bored
pretty quick, try to output my additions in a new movie that didn't bloat in
size and start to look choppy the more I compressed it. So, I kind of left it
half finished but I put it up anyways in its given up on form in case they were
bored at work and wanted something to kill a few minutes with. It'll be one of
those things that is first to get taken down when I start running out of storage
room for my web pages, but in the mean time it's there for all to mock my feeble
efforts. That reminds me....if you
want a real treat in movie making... here is the Charlie Brown/Hey Ya video that
was originally put up by a couple of guys and shortly yanked down later when
they got a letter from some lawyers
threatening them. Don't know how long it will last in the spot I
learned about before it gets yanked down...but check it out
while you can.
-------------------------------------------------------------UPDATE:
Rich's mom came through and saved the day with a few pics sent to me through
Jaime....and a couple even have the mysterious Laura in them. So I've included
those on the picture
page.
See I told you she looks like someone you think
you
know...
