Tree Go Boom!

A tree fell over in my neighbors yard in the middle of the night. This isn't my first close call with a falling tree...and yes it does make a noise when a tree falls!

Last week the tree in my neighbors yard took a spill. Not the entire tree. It had a big fork in it. One of the forked limbs near the base rotted through and broke off. It was about 3:30 AM when it happened. I heard this really loud creaking sound then 5 loud bangs and a thud. I went outside to take a gander and sure enough there is half a tree laying in the neighbors yard. It’s practically a tree of its own. Scared the hoohaa out of me.

Why I woke up I don’t know, I’m usually a pretty heavy sleeper. I even fell asleep listening to my iPod that night and still had my headphones on. In fact when I was much younger, maybe around 4 or so, a tree directly between our two houses was hit by lightning and fell over. The base of the tree was about 15 feet from my bedroom window. It fell exactly down the middle between the two houses so damage was limited. However a few stray branches did land on the roof of my room and busted through trying to take a poke at me. But my bed was on the opposite side of the room. I never woke up while this was going on. My parents came running into my room to see if I was okay and said they found me fast asleep. When Carlton takes a nap, Carlton really takes a nap! But this time I bolted up like nobody’s business.

Maybe it’s because I’m older now and I know the world is a more dangerous place, so I don’t rest as easy. Back then, my worries consisted of wondering if Santa would find me on his naughty or nice list and what kind of cookies would we have the next day at preschool. Now, I have to worry about when the guys at the meth lab down the street are going to come and break in to my home to steal Clorox or whatever they use. I have to worry about what idiotic thing President Select George W. is going to say to the terrorists like “Bring it on!” that is going to bring further wrath against us. I have to worry about what big virus is going to hit my computer next….well I don’t have to worry about that. I use an apple so there is no virus to worry about. Although I do have to worry about that department of defense signing of a 90 million dollar contract with Microsoft and all the huge holes Microsoft purposely leaves in its operating system so they can spy on their customers…the same holes hackers use to exploit its weaknesses and spread a virus around.

All this worrying is really starting to wear me out. I feel tired, I need a nap. Let’s just hope that tree out back doesn’t come calling for me tonight.
