Trailer Park University
Could it be underfunding? Is it just making the
best of a bad situation? Is it just the culture of the area? Whatever it is, I
want to introduce you to Trailer Park University.
So back in
February, I had to make a trip to the library at the local university. Southern Illinois University is about
25 miles from my home. I made the quick trip down there, pulled into the
parking lot and went into the library. Having finished my business there, I
walked out the front door and looked over to my right. That's when I saw
this....
I'm not exactly sure what these buildings are for. I think they could be storage
areas for the library. They are too small to be classrooms. All I know is, those
suckers are up on blocks. CONCRETE BLOCKS! Now I know I live in a rural area. I
know we have a reputation for having a large population of "white trash" around
these parts. Heck the movie Poor
White Trash was even filmed largely in this surrounding towns of this
part of the state. But
wouldn't you expect a university to be a little better off? Shouldn't a a mid
size university (approx. 20,000 students) feel a little more majestic, or at
least have an honest to goodness college campus feel to it? All I know is, as I
walked back to my vehicle I kept my eye out for any three wheelers coming down
the path at me and if there were any washing machines sitting out on the front
steps of any other buildings.
