How I miss the Lockbox.
Am reading, as I mentioned earlier, George Lakoff's
book Don't Think of an
Elephant. It's great. More on it when I
finish.
But I was reminded of something
that I wanted to mention a while back, about Social Security.
That lovely surplus we had in Social
Security around...hm, let's say, the end of Clinton's presidency -- it's being
drained. By what? Oh yes. The cost of war.
Social Security's surplus is being used
to pay for all the Bush administration's ventures. Correct me if I'm wrong, but,
seeing as Social Security is meant to run out in the next few decades, wouldn't
it make sense to conserve all extra possible resources while trying to find the
best solution to the issues with SS? To, perhaps, help support those hundreds of
thousands of people who might get caught in the middle while we are making the
transition and reforms needed to save the whole
thing?
Hm. Just a thought.
Lakoff's book is good. Read it.
