Damn Thieves

Well, I have had so much so say lately...but when I was up at the University of Chicago last weekend [for an incredible conference on Consolidating Democracy in Mexico] [for pictures, click here] my friends' apartment was broken into and our laptops were stolen. So I am undertaking the hellish task of rebuilding the whole blog. Good thing it's finals week. Thus beginneth the procrastination...

So....a few things to mention. Besides the conference, which really was fantastic, I am so proud of all of the Chicago Society Folks. Cheers.

Bush is not allowing recorded transcripts of his private (oh, excuse me, tag-team, thanks Dick) interview with the 9/11 commission. Need I say anything obnoxious? I'm sure Maureen Dowd will be all over it tomorrow, anyway.

What else was there? Hmmm. I'll remember it sooner or later, when I can stop worrying about Hiram Powers' Greek Slave and how it is an important work of art, as it signals the instigation of full-fledged American Orientalist cultural hegemony beginning in the mid-Nineteenth century. Hooowaahhh.
