  The Woodcroft Hospital was at one time part of the Colorado State Hospital (mental institution), and other times a private hospital for different problems. The problems could have been alcoholism, old age, etc. Woodcroft also had a school and "closed workshop" which employed the mentally challenged in the early days. It has been closed for many years, and was a nursing home after that. The main building burned to the ground several years ago when the city fathers were having it restored and remodeled into low income housing. All records I fear went up in smoke. It might also help to know that many elderly were kept at the State Hospital before the invention of modern nursing homes. They had separate buildings for the elderly. I guess it was similar to what they used to call the Poor farm. Usually patients had no one to look after them and no where else to go.

She died from arterio solerotic, heart disease at the Sacramento county Hospital. In information received from her funeral home, it was mentioned that a sister, Mrs. R. M. Simmons of Carnation, WA survived her. Also that 'Mrs. Graves is a member of the Church Missionary Circle, the W. C. T. U, the Mothers Club, the Red Cross and ????? Club. She was active in all till her health failed her.' The same information gave her place of birth as Danna, Indiana in 1861.

Among the terrible features of tabes dorsalis are lancinating lightning-like pain, ataxia (wobbliness), deterioration of the nerves to the eyes (the optic nerves) leading to blindness, urinary incontinence, loss of the sense of position, and degeneration of the joints (Charcot's joints).

That includes the information given by Telitha herself at her second marriage, to C. S. Murphy. Now, Martha Caldwell's mother was an Elizabeth, surname unknown. Could there be a possibility that this is the person the informant, Telitha's daughter, Della, was referring to?
