This site is all about my ancestry and gives information on various members of my family tree. The information is based on my own research as well as some work done by other researchers and generously shared with me. I have posted this information here without any source citations. However, I will freely share that information with you if you are interested in it and contact me via my email address given below.

My ancestry is mostly Portuguese. Fifty percent of that is from the Azore Islands which are in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Twenty-five percent is from Portugal itself. The remaining twenty-five percent is a mixture of various nationalities, as many of us are. Those would be German, Irish, English, French, and Dutch.

In order to protect their privacy, every effort has been made to exclude from this site all living family members. So, if you don't see someone where you think they should be, it is most likely because I either know they are still living or don't know for sure that they are not.

You may notice that there are many names that do not have surnames attached to them. That is because of the Portuguese naming traditions. You see, when a child is born, they are given a first name and are baptized with that. That child does not adopt a surname until some time later, before they marry. Then, they can, and do, take either their father's or their mother's surname. Or, they may take a grandparent's surname or anyone elses, for that matter! So, you can not assume that, as an example, all children from a father with the Macedo surname will have that surname. They may be named Macedo, but you don't know for sure until you research them more thoroughly. And that, of course, I have neither the time nor desire to do! Also, many Portuguese women take religious names rather than surnames. For instance, she may be called Maria de Jesus, or Theresa do Espirito Santo. So, in all these cases, there would be no surname given.

Now, to explain a little about how this site is arranged ...

  • There is a Master Index, which gives links to ranges of surnames. If you would just like to browse the names of people in this site, use it.
  • If you are looking for a particular surname, you might want to give the Surname Index a try.
  • If you are looking for a place and the ancestors who came from that place, try the Place Index.
  • indicates there is a photo or photos of that person you will see when you click on their link.
  • on a Person Page means you can click to see another image of that person.
  • means that person is a direct ancestor of mine.
  • My relationship to each person in my ancestry is included with their information.
  • For each ancestor of mine, you will see "Pop-up Pedigree." If you click on that, a small window with a 3 generation pedigree chart will appear.
  • Under Charts, you will find links to four ancestor charts, one for each of my grandparents. There are also descendant charts on some of my lines that show all the descendants from my earliest known ancestor with that surname.
  • There are some additional images of my ancestors on the Images page.

Every effort has been made to present this information accurately. If you have any comments, questions, or corrections, please send me an email. I welcome all your input!
