Well, I've done it now.Two giant yarn orders in less than a week. I
might have to drop out of school to finish my christmas
knitting.
I had a little elann shopping problem this week. It
started with plans for christmas gifts, and of course degraded into me buying an
assload of yarn for myself - and breaking one of my cardinal knitting rules.
but more on that later. First let's focus on the Christmas gifts. I realized
that I first decided which yarns i really wanted to buy, and then figured out
gifts from that. Desperately wanting to buy some Peruvian Alpaca for something, i decided that I
could make something for my
dad
Gift 1: Alpaca scarf and maybe a hat for Dad. Eyeing the lovely and inexpensive 100% cotton Endless Summer Collection Lara and wanting to knit myself an ipod sock with it, i justified this: Gift 2: Ipod cozy for a friend that i have not yet bought a b-day present for. Plus, I know that this stuff will make some nice beer cozies too. Next I saw the Gjestal Naturgarn (a really nice Nowegian lopi). My knitting circle buddy just knit her first object out of this yarn, and it was so beautiful. And as Gen says "The yardage is so great." so how could i resist. it is destined to become: Gift 3: Giant felted bag for my Mom. Mom's got a big addiction to tote bags, so it's a sure hit. I wasn't sure how much to get, so just in case i got a whole extra color if i need it (this is my way of scheming a couple of skeins into my stash that might knit up to be hats some day). Plus i have a giant felted bag expert, gen, at my disposal. man, i wish that girl had a blog. Maybe if I consult with her to make this bag, I will be able to write up one of her patterns for everyone. and i know that you guys like felted bags because a whole crapload of ya get to this page by googling for felted bags, and i feel eternally guilty for not really having much to offer you. and if I keep typing 'felted bag' it is just going to make this problem worse.... So, to summarize, i will list the other gifts i plan on knitting... Gift 4: Set of 4 beer cozies (3 complete) Gift 5: Socks for mom (on hold until she send me her foot measurements) Gift 6: scarf for grandma (complete!) Whew. I am exhausted. But i still have to tell you about how i broke one of my cardinal knitting rules. 1. Do not knit a sweater, karrie. you do not have the attention span. you cannot afford the yarn. Apparently i think that i can do it. i bought the Peruvian Wool to make the Chicknits Ribby Cardi pictured on Elann's page, and hopefully in the exact same colors. there is rumor of a knit along starting after Christmas. Oh yeah, one more thing... felted bags!! I said it
again mmwwwahahahaha! But really, there will be a pattern here someday.
