Strangers who knit, where were you?So, last night was the first night of our
knitting circle being open to the public. we had it at the Mel-O-Dee in El
Cerrito Plaza. I arrived at 7:30 and no one else was there yet, so i ordered a
martini and started thumbing through Ingrid's stitch 'n Bitch book. I have
never actually read one and was immediately sucked in to the part that tells you
how to organize a SnB. So i thought I would see how well I did.... It says to
have the event in a not-so-popular place so that there is plenty of room for
all- Check. the mel-o-dee is a lovely place, but on weeknights it only has a
few locals. It said that you should scout out the location ahead of time-
check. sarah and I went there the night before to make sure there were no other
special events planned. it said to advertise online- check. I put a post on
the Knitty Worldwide
SnB finder , Evite, this blog, and the Knitting Meetup page. i was
pretty proud of myself and thought at least maybe one stranger would show up.
but alas. no one.
we had a good time though. the people at the bar were great. we got heckled a bit for knitting ("what are you doing? Knitting? are you my wife or something?") but it was all in good fun. i think they were happy to see us. everyone kept asking us if we were going to come back next week. when one of the guys who had been telling us jokes was ready to leave, his wife showed up. when she heard that there was knitting in the back room, she stopped in to say hi. she said that she would put her knitting in the car in case we were there next week. Whaaaa!! I think we may have recruited our first stranger. Other Strangers, you missed out. really. come next time. By the way, they have the best Sloe Gin Fizz ever. And red velvet and gold wallpaper. you really should come and check it out. Gen has finished alien #5 (out of 6) and the alien illusion scarf looks great. She says that she aims to finish it by this weekend.
Someone who will remain anonymous and claims that this is a bad photo finished a Baby Square , and worked on her bag.
Ingrid started a baby hat while teaching her
roommate how to knit
Doesn't that wallpaper look
great?
