Non absorbent, heat conducting rag
I think this is truly the first thing that i ever
knit. I got some cheap acrylic yarn, and started knitting away in the
basketweave stitch. the point of the project was just to get some practice, and
i soon decided that i had mastered it and was ready to move on. plus the
project was holding up my favorite size 9 needles. The problem was, i didnt
know what i had actually made....i
decided to start decreasing rapidly and knit a skinny tab with a button on it.
that way, i could turn my creation into one of those rags that hangs on your
oven
door.
It didnt turn out too beautiful. i decreased
too many stitches and it is all puckery. For my roommates sake, i dont hang it
on the oven. plus, it is a loose stitch in 100% acrylic yarn. this makes it
completely water resistant, and heat conducting. it is a totally useless
object.
the best part about me thinking
at the time that oven rags were a great idea, is that i talked my friend bunny
into it too. she had an acrylic scarf that she was sick of working on, and i
convinced her to turn it into an oven rag. Hers is so nice that she keeps it on
her oven door (i stole this picture when i was over at her
house):
