Getting Involved at Living Word

Discipleship and Fellowship

Christianity Explored is an informal course for people who'd like to investigate Christianity, or just brush up on the basics. It explores who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him. You won't be asked to pray, sing or read aloud, and you can ask any questions you like. Or, if you prefer, you can just come along and listen.

Christianity Explored courses are usually held once in the Fall and once in the Spring.  If you're interested in joining us for this introduction to the Christian faith, please contact us.

Discipleship Explored is a journey into the book of Philippians. As they discover Paul's extraordinary letter, participants explore for themselves the meaning of Paul's words: "For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."

Discipleship Explored is the follow-up course for Christnity Explored, but you needn't have gone through the first course to be involved.  This course is for anyone who desire to know what it means to follow Jesus.  We plan to offer a DE course in the Winter of 2009.

Service Groups

Acolytes - Acolytes assist the priest so he may celebrate the Lord's Super and other rites of the Church with simple dignity. These tasks may include lighting and extinguishing candles, carrying the cross or torches during the procession and recession, as well as assisting during the offertory.

Altar Guild - The Altar Guild prepares the church for the administration of the sacraments. These tasks include the care for and preparation of vestments, linens, vessels, furniture and other items used in our worship services.

Brotherhood of St. Joseph - The Brotherhood of St. Joseph is a fellowship of men who are caretakers for our building and grounds.

Choir and Musical Programs - We are blessed with an excellent group of vocal and instrumental musicians. They provide music during our services and at special events throughout the year. New additions are always welcome!

Sidesmen - Sidesmen help make everyone who comes to worship at Living Word Church feel welcome. They make sure everyone has service booklets and hymns, and make sure everyone is seated comfortably.

Lectors - Lectors read scripture lessons, lead the Prayer for the Church, and assist in administering the chalice during the Lord's Supper.

Nursery - Infants to pre-school children are lovingly and safely cared for during the 10:00 am service.
