I have been in love with books from a very tender age and I owe it all to my mother. She always bought a Little Golden book as part of the weekly grocery shopping. There was a time in my youth when I saw no problem with floating books in the wading pool. (She liked to show that photo to people when I graduated with my Masters in Library Science.) When I was in the primary grades, there were so many children in Webster Groves that the shelves in the public library were often pitifully bare. There was a limit to how many you could take just so there would be something left for the next person. The Librarians had no problem dusting the shelves. By the time I reached the upper grades I was spending my summers reading 3 books a day. By then my mother began to worry that she had created a monster, one that never got enough exercise. I made a deal with her to get up every fifth chapter and go out and hit a tennis ball against the garage door for a while. Oh, that was a hard promise to keep. I still notice today that often the fifth chapter ends with a nailbiter!!! Keep an eye out when you are reading. You will see what I mean.
