Thinner by surprise...

Went back to aquacise today for the first time since November 24. There is a medical scale there that I use. I was quite suprised to find out that I've dropped 8 pounds since my last visit! I've lost a total of 18 since I started acquacise in September. That leaves me with only 20 more to go.

I guess I shouldn't whine so much about my restricted diet. It does seem to be good for something. I was worried that eating more potatoes, rice and corn would make me fatter...but I guess removing all cookies, cake, candy, pie, etc. more than makes up for it. Now if I can just work out the gastroparesis problem....I was sick until late last night. At first, I thought it was because of eating regular full-fat cheddar cheese, but I finally figured out it was because of eating potatoes and tomatoes with the skins on. I guess I'll have to peel my tomatoes now before slicing them up. Weird.

The water aerobics class was a real challenge...I'd been doing stretches most of the time I was gone, so that was ok, but I had trouble with the walking because I've been doing very little of that. Plus it was COLD outdoors....only 3 degrees when I went to the class. And I have a hint of a sore throat in addition to the chills and mild congestion. Hope that's as bad as it gets.

Pain level: 6

Rave of the Day: This was originally published in one of the famous "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books. Thanks go to Izzie for making me aware of it. While the author probably wasn't specifically addressing people with chronic illness, it certainly could apply here...

The Rules for Being Human- Cherrie Carter- Scott

1. YOU WILL RECEIVE A BODY.
You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period.

2. YOU WILL LEARN LESSONS.
You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called Life. Each day in this school you will learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.

3. THERE ARE NO MISTAKES, ONLY LESSONS.
Growth is a process of trial and error: experimentaion. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiment that ultimately works.

4. A LESSON IS REPEATED UNTIL LEARNED.
A lesson will be presentes to you in various forms until you have learned it. Once learned, you then go on to the next lesson.

5. LEARNING LESSONS DOES NOT END.
There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.

6. "THERE" IS NOT BETTER THAN "HERE."
When your "there" has become a "here" you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than "here."

7. OTHERS ARE MERELY MIRRORS OF YOU.
You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something you love ot hate about yourself.

8. WHAT YOU MAKE OF YOUR LIFE IS UP TO YOU.
You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.

9. THE ANSWERS OF LIFE'S QUESTIONS LIE INSIDE YOU.
All you need to do is look, listen and trust.

10. YOU WILL FORGET THIS.
