Casino Royale
Fun, action-filled. Not the best James
Bond movie perhaps, nor the best James Bond actor, but still a lot of fun to
watch. Suffered from being too long ...
... after about half the movie, after an
almost-climactic point in the plot, I started thinking "this movie is long".
That's not a good sign -- I'm supposed to be so engrossed in the story, so
suspended in disbelief, that I've forgotten the "real world" in favor of the
silver screen. Not here though. The storywriters seemed to have a hard time
ending the movie. And ultimately, it doesn't end on a clean note. The sort-of
mastermind, a minor character in the movie, is seemingly caught, but we have no
idea of his background, no character development. What was he up to? Why? Why
blow up something in Madagascar?
It just
didn't seem to be well-written. Filmed much more for the new Bond actor, and
the action. And, there was action aplenty. The funnest, though, was probably
the beginning, which showcased a new action-form known as
parkour
(akin to "free-running", and looking a lot like
Jackie Chan dashing around, leaping over and through, and flipping about), acted
by none other than parkour co-founder Sebastian Foucan.
