LIES, Inc.
Fans will be excited to discover there's
a new book by Philip K. DIck!
Lies,
Inc. is an expanded version of
Unteleported
Man, and it's a rambunctious,
heavy-tech sci-fi adventure. For the first 99 pages, the reader is treated to a
fast-paced, gadget-heavy, mind-boggling story line. Then, suddenly, the novel
dives into an extended LSD trip ...
... reminiscent, perhaps, of one of PKD's own acid
trips. It's strange, colorful, and -- one wonders -- out-of-place. The whole
book was pieced together posthumously from two previously-published parts, as
well as some missing pages. Sometimes the story suffers from the
discontinuities; at other points, it seems of if the discontinuity is part of
the story.
Despite its problems, I still
enjoyed reading Lies, Inc., and I suspect one day we'll see it in a
movie.
