Austin
Went to Austin this weekend, to visit
Yvette
Yvette has moved away to college this year. Sigh!
Actually, we're very proud of her - she was accepted to St. Edward's University,
and she's take further strides toward independence. Not financial independence,
mind you!!! But, she is making more choices for herself, and researches her
choices carefully.
Yvette took us to
several popular shopping areas around town. The first was along S. Capitol; I
think the area is called "Taylor Heights". Ten Thousand Villages is located
there, along with some interesting eateries, art shops and antique stores.
Then, later, we went to the Drag, near UT. Shopped at a nice bookstore with an
excellent literature selection. Avoided, though, the UT "Coop", where they sold
branded University of Texas memorbilia. Does "coop" not have any meaning
anymore?? It was clear this was not a cooperative operation, co-owned by its
customers; nor did it even seem to be a non-profit. Instead, I figured it was a
very profitable operation for UT. I guess since UT itself is a non-profit
entity (it's a branch of the state government), then the whole thing is
"non-profit", but I don't get the "Coop"
name.
Anyway
...
Dropped by "That Popcorn Place". Fun
place, with an energetic owner. Some tasty flavors too. We stocked up on a
couple of popcorns, for our trip back
home.
All in all, it was a nice weekend
trip with the family.
