NEWS UPDATE ABOUT McCHOMPERTON

A DOG STABBED AND LEFT FOR DEAD IN A DUMPSTER

GIVES KISSES TO HIS RESCUERS AS HE IS LIFTED TO SAFETY

May 14, 2008

Neutering is a normal part of life for our rescue dogs, but when we picked up McChomperton after his surgery, it represented so much more. Not only was he stabbed in the back with a butcher knife, thrown in a dumpster and left there for two days until we got a call to come to his aide, we found upon examination he was also heartworm positive. I am thrilled to announce, as of May 14 2008, this beautiful Red Nose Pit Bull has finally reached the end of his long road through veterinary treatment!

His Journey:

On the morning of February 11, Faktura Projekts rescuer Teri Mujica received a frantic call about a pit bull found in a dumpster in the industrial section of Hollywood. Teri and FP founder Jacquelyn Johnston drove over to the location at 9:30 am.

What we found was unbelievable. An adult male red nosed pit bull, stabbed and thrown into a dumpster. His nose was full of small pieces of Styrofoam, his leg was bent back behind him and he could not stand. After talking to him, giving him some treats and climbing into the dumpster, we used a blanket to lift him out of the dumpster and rushed him to our vet.

He had a deep stab wound a few inches above his tail. It cut through skin and muscle and we suspect caused severe nerve damage because we are fighting to help him regain the use of his hind left leg. X-rays show the leg is not broken, but appears to have had nerve damage from the cut. He was heartworm positive.

Due to the severity of his multiple conditions, we decided to treat one ailment at a time. With the generous donations of a few wonderful people, we were able to get full x-rays, stitch up his wound, put him on antibiotics and pain medication.

A major miscommunication with the first vet he saw lead him to be sent home with his previous owner. Our hands were tied, initially, but thanks to the patient and watchful eye of the investigators at the Hollywood police Department, he came back into our rescue when his stitches were not being properly cared for.

The man who stabbed McChomperton was also discovered. An arrest was made just a few weeks after the horrific abuse occurred. The details of this will be further described on our website.

After his return, we started working with a new veterinary office. As soon as his wound began to heal, we admitted him for the beginning of his heartworm treatment. The muscles in his leg began to atrophy; we knew it was imperative we find the perfect foster home for him ASAP!

We placed him in a wonderful home with four other dogs, all female and all spayed. He took to a loving home life very quickly! McChomperton is reportedly a big fan of cuddling in the big bed ;)

His new family continues to work diligently to encourage him to use his back leg and as of May his muscles are beginning to mend! It looks like he may regain the use of his hind leg after all!!

To complete his treatment, he returned to the vet to get his final heartworm treatment and be neutered. When I arrived to pick him up the following day, the vet staff took turns giving him hugs and kisses. He will need ongoing care to his leg, but this amazing Pit Bull has finally closed this ugly chapter in his life and his big SMILE is evidence everyday that no matter what kind of abuse an animal may suffer, they truly are the heroes. May he live a happy and loving life, and forever stand as a symbol of the nobility of his breed.
