Doggy Counseling
Fit n Sit Doggy Nutritional and Behavioral Counseling
specializes in homemade meals tailored for your pet
and a gentle rescue-dog inspired approach to behavioral issues.
Our approach to teaching dogs is based on years
of rescuing street dogs. Each of our rescues has taught us
that there is strength and kindness in mutual understanding
and we strive to do each of their journeys justice by passing
along their wisdom to every new dog we meet.
From PUPPIES to RESCUES to SENIORS
We want to meet you, WE CAN HELP!
Training Days at the Doggy Training and Wellness Center
Training days begin with a structured long walk, that emphasizes pack leadership, the heel command, and
an automatic sit whenever we come to a stop. We also work on introductions to new people, as well as build
tolerance to new noises, smells and situations.
Walks are followed by supervised play time with the other training students. We practice group commands,
by using the group to reinforce speed of command recognition. For this exercise, I ask the group to sit, the
first one who sits is rewarded. This reinforces the ability to focus on commands around distractions and
fosters good will toward competitive command recognition. Dogs that have food aggression greatly benefit
from such exercises as they learn to trust that it it the human that is fair, consistent and in control.
After nap time, we separate into one-on-one training sessions and focus directly on each dog's command
recognition.
When each dog has practiced their commands individually, we practice what was just learned as a group to
reinforce commands in a distracting environment. Then we go on structure walks again, but this time we also
work on sit and come in an outdoor environment. After every dog has completed their training, we have a big
playtime session!
Every dog gets a complete assessment every training day, complete with a report card and homework for the
family to practice.
In-Home Training
The first in-home training session lasts up to three hours. The first step is for me to get to know the dog as
well as the whole home situation in all its dynamics. Then we go through the individual needs and concerns
for each dog in the family. I observe the situations as they occur and each training suggestion is made entirely
based on the needs of that particular situation. I love to meet each new dog and parent. All families are
different, there is no set way to achieve a "perfect" dog/owner relationship. To reach that requires mutual
understanding and individual training plans.
