Andrea's Statement

I always had passion for art, film, and animals.

I was already involved in some local rescue groups and have rescued dogs on my own (in the streets) for 2-3 years now. I’ve been pet sitting for about 10 years.

I met Jacquelyn through an email about a dog that I rescued.

From there we started working closely together. I loved the idea of mixing art and rescue dogs together.

It’s been a rough year for both of us, but I think it made us stronger in a lot of ways. And the rough times will keep on coming like hurricane season, but it won’t stop us from doing what we are passionate about…dogs and art. I can’t imagine having it any other way.

How Andrea got started

I got started rescuing dogs when I saw this poor puppy get hit right in front of my eyes in Hialeah, on my way to work. Thank god there was a good person that wanted to help me with the puppy.

We both stopped in the middle of the road, blocking traffic, didn’t care. All I remember saying to the puppy “you are going to be fine, I promise you” and few minutes later, it started to come around, but he had to go to the vet. The guy fell in love with him, and took him to the vet. The dog made it. Then I saw MAX, about 8 months later…he was hiding underneath this cave like drive way. It was a warehouse. He was soooooo scared, and finally he trusted me. I took him to my awesome vet (who’s retired now) we gave him shots and medication for his hookworms. My aunt fostered him for about a week. Max got to go on a local radio station for adoptable of the week. Well, one of the DJs of the radio station fell in love. And for the past 2 years, Max has been living with her and her husband and their 2 cats. We still keep in touch till this day! I just couldn’t stop rescuing! It was like a rush, a good rush. And to capture these rescue stories on film is just amazing.

Thank you to my parents who think I’m out of my mind rescuing these dogs.

On a serious note: They have taught me that it’s okay to be different, and to love yourself and respect others.

JACK- MY PRIDE AND JOY

I rescued him from a bad neighborhood. It was love at first sight for him and I. His owner left him and 2 other dogs behind when they moved. The 2 dogs died… one got hit by a car, the other died of hunger. Then there was Jack….I heard about Jack from a crazy rescuer.

He was a true street dog, cuts and bites all over on him, very aggressive towards people (people that would throw rocks at him) but never me, he loved me the moment I step out of the car (the crazy rescuer couldn’t believe he came up to me without biting me)…I couldn’t believe how cute he was and made a big deal… he loved that, but became very protective of me very quickly.

Everyday I would go and feed him for months, till MDAS was trying to look for him. I freaked out, and begged my mom to help me with him. I remember saying to her “we just have to take him to a rescue place” Well, little did I know, that rescue place was our home. She couldn’t believe the bond that Jack and I shared and didn’t have the heart to separate us.
