ETHOS

Ethos is a Rottweiler/ Shar Pei mix who was severly abused... So imagine those personality traumas! Nothing we couldn't work through though!!!
Ethos is my most difficult rescue to date. I got a call from a concerned woman down in Wynwood, who had seen my write up in the New Times. She said a puppy was haning around the warehouse, people were feeding him, but no one was taking him home. She didn't want to call Animal Services since they put dogs to sleep if they are not adopted, but they had been called the same day she read about me in the paper.
I went down to meet her, and him, and he was pitiful. He had an old leather collar on, too tight, and there was a piece of rope tied to it wear he had chewed loose. He had been tied up, neglected and from his behavior, most likely severly abused. He had lesions all over his neck and legs. He was very underweight. He didn't like anyone.
He growled at me. He growled at me when I offered him a treat. He followed me to the car, but growled when I picked him up to put him in the back seat. He snapped at me when I offered him another treat. He had a little bit of an attitude.
When I got him home, he tried to bite me when I asked him to get out of the car. He snapped when I offered him another treat. I don't really know how I got him out of the car and into the back room, but some how I managed.
I put down a mountain of food, and you guessed it, he growled at me. At this point I had had enough, I yelled at him to think about what he had done, and left him alone to think about it with tons of food, water and treats.
The next day, he was still growling at everything, but had pretty much given up on the snapping. I bathed him, and took him to the vet. He had worms and mange. When we started the mange medecine, within three days almost 80% of his hair fell out. [For those of you who have never dealt with mange, it gets worse before it gets better, all of the hair around the mites had to fall out, the mites have to die, then the would must close up and heal before bnew hair can grow. It's a LONG process].

Isis, Phluffy, Ethos and Lucky
Within three weeks I had him eating out of the same bowl as everyone else. He was allowed to socialize with my other pups after two weeks of mange medecine, and he was happy to have some nice dogs to play with. I kept Ethos for about four months, to make sure he recovered fully, and his persoanlity demanded that I find the exact perfect owner!

I did, eventually, find a perfect fit for Ethos. His new owner sent me picture messages on my phone within hours of picking him up, thanking me for such a wonderful companion. This picture was sent to me a few weeks after his adoption, on Ethos', now Biggie Smalls, first trip to the beach!
I keep in touch with his owner, and you can spot my pups playing with Ethos at many gallery openings or at the dog park!
