BOI BRUNO
I happened to meet Bruno only a couple of days before he was scheduled to be put down. I took action immediately, worked with the kind people from Redland Doberman Rescue, and took him home! He is recovering now, and I will write more about his whole story soon. This pic was take at Animal Services, and shows how emaciated and sick he was. The pic at the top is of him at home with me, only a couple weeks later.
Once I reviewed the medical records Animal Services provided, it was apparent, on record, that they had not tried to even assess his health for the first three days, citing aggression. After that, sporadic treatment for Bordetella was given, then stopped the day I called about him. When I got him, he was terrified, showed no signs of aggression, and was extremely thirsty and hungry. He ate over five pounds of food the first day I got him, and drank almost a gallon of water. He had been in the kennel for over two weeks, there was NO need for him to be that hungry or thirsty.
When I placed my hands around his ribs, my fingers sank in the whole way. With the help of my vet, home cooked meals of beef liver, hamburger meat, oats, carrots and lots of bologna, Bruno made his slow recovery from Ehrlykia and Bordetella.
He has gain over 35 pounds, regained muscle tone in his hind legs and can walk with very little trace of his trauma. Tests have shown he has suffered fractures to every bone in his scull, and had had something broken over his back which displaced two vertebrae. It is a miracle he can even stand!
Jacquelyn decided to keep Bruno, since his traumatic recovery has led to a bond between them she fears to break. He has adapted very well to living and sharing with other dogs and even kittens, and Bruno has become the male member of the Doggie Faktura Rescue and Rehabilitation Team.
