Welcome 2nd Grade Parents and Students!

Bookmark this site for information about your second grader's science class. This year we will be learning about many different science concepts as we explore the history of New York and the United States. Please email kchaloner@gcschool.org with any questions or comments. If your child has visited a science museum or other special place and wants to discuss it in class, just let me know! Below is a list of websites for kids who want to explore more.

Science Links for Curious Kids

Kids of all ages will enjoy the Natural History Museum's OLOGY website. You can read about the real scientists who work at the museum and try out fun games to test your knowledge.

The New York Hall of Science has a great interactive site for kids, and if you haven't been there, a wonderful "science" playground that explores the simple machines and how sound travels.

Kids from Grace visit the Liberty Science Center once in a while, and boy are they lucky. See their website for a list of current exhibits and exciting games.

In class we may read articles from one of my favorite kids' science magazines: Odyssey - check their website for more games, crazy facts and subscription information.

Visit Enchanted Learning anytime if you want to color in some pages that have to do with our work during the week. Just search for the topic (like "Rivers") and see a list of "label-me" drawings to print out anytime.

LINKS FOR CLASS ACTIVITIES

During September we will be looking at buoyancy. Check out the American Canoe Association's site to see some innovative designs.

The history of the Hudson is an amazing tale. Visit World Almanac for Kids or Riverkeeper for information about our historic waterway.

Visit New York's Audubon Society for information about our local environment and how to identify the birds and other animals living there.

Check out the BBC's website for a fun review of Solids, Liquids and Gasses.

Girls! Want to find out more about how to get involved in science and technology? Visit the Girl Scouts' GIRLS GO TECH web site - great games and activities....GIRLS GO TECH
