72 hours later
Is that right, 72 hours? 3 days ago. It's hard
to believe it's been three days, and hard to believe it was so long ago.
Actually, it hasn't quite been 72 hours, at the moment I'm writing I was still
exhaustedly wishing to be done. And now, 3 days later, I'm done and have this
sweet little boy who nurses ALL the time. Like his brothers before him, his
skin is peeling away, and he's got some of that infant acne thing going on. He
still looks sweet, opening up his little eyes to frown at us in amazement,
trying to turn to look at voices he recognizes. We are pleased to report both a
super-soaked diaper this morning and a nice poopy one, too. And a reasonable
night's sleep, so long as he was snuggled in next to
me.
The baby monitor got it's first
use this morning, with Aldrin bundled up in the bassinet. He slept about 20
minutes - about his longest when not being held. Just like all his siblings
except Gark, who slept like a rock his first two weeks. 20 minutes gave me time
to make a yogurt smoothie and eat half, and make a decaf hazelnut coffee, still
full, and start a blog with two hands. Now, with one hand, I get to try to
finish the smoothie, coffee, and blog. I spilled a little coffee on me, but at
least it wasn't still hot, and it'll make me smell nice, right? My other hand
has the more important task of snuggling Buzz while he nurses himself back to
sleep.
Oops, I made the mistake of
stopping to burp him, and it takes a few minutes to settle the angry little guy
back down. His swaddled arms try to break free, tiny fists making it difficult
to get him nursing again. I try to explain that he is not helping, but my words
are unheeded. As soon as he latches on again he is calm and already half-asleep
again. What a sweet baby.
