How many broken slings does a girl need?
Did you know I have 5 baby
slings in the house? Only one is really useable, and I don't like it.
Here's the inventory:• One
functional one - navy blue and white, but WAY too long (the tail hangs almost to
my feet) and disproportionate. The first one *I* ever
sewed.• One functional but ripping
one - my purple one, after many years of use, is giving up, the material itself is
wearing where it's tightened, and is ripped. I am concerned that it would rip
too much with a baby in it, and I suppose I should retire
it ... although it's been a key factor in being a famous unknown at our huge
church - as in: "Oh, you're the
lady who always has a baby in a purple
sling!"
(oh, and it's not inside out in that pic, I just have the tail flipped back up
for extra warmth for baby
Tobi-Wan)• One flannel one, the
rings are too small and the flannel is too puffy, so it doesn't really tighten
and loosen well• One beautiful
denim-blue patterned one ~ with a popped ring. I'd have to un-sew the entire
shoulder pad to replace the ring.•
One lovely turquoise and green one ~ also with a popped
ring. Same issue as the above one.I
used to own some others, but the pink one I gave to Angie, and the
heart-and-ticking one I gave Thayon, and the blue
one I loaned to someone who never used it and never returned it :( I
guess I shouldn't complain, since most of them have gotten good use, I'm happy
to give them away to people who use them, the blue one is the only one that
really makes me sad. Plus my purple
one was a gift, and the turquoise and green was also a gift, both from
my sister and both well used, and the denim-blue patterned one was
a hand-me-back that I made for someone and was returned to me after ... 4
babies? 5? So it's been well used, too. I'm sad that the ring popped, though.
I tried Gorilla
Glue , which is supposed to bond ANYthing, on the rings, but they
didn't work. Bummer.But here's the
best news, my good friend Christine has two slings she is not using, and said
she would be happy to have someone use them. So until I can get mine fixed,
which I still hope to do so I always have loaners and back-ups (can't have too
many FUNCTIONAL slings, can you?) I will get to use hers AND be reminded of her
friendship. But I do need to decide if I can fix the others or not; I guess
there's no reason to keep a stash of NON-functional ones for a long time ...
right?
