Welcome To Michigan

Last week it got up to a Balmy 82 degrees. In Michigan! In April! While not unheard of, it's not all that typical. What was more unusual, though, was that once we hit March it started staying mostly-above freezing during the day, and got steadily warmer, and warmer. None of this back-and-forth weather that usually means Spring in Michigan. But I am here to report that we're in Michigan after all. Today it's supposed to get up to 36 and as I type there is snow coming down outside. Quite a bit, actually, although at the moment the ground is too warm for it to stick. It's expected that by evening the air will be cold enough for some accumulation. Maybe up to 6 inches. Ahhh, there's the Michigan I've come to expect. I'm not complaining, why I've walked to a prenatal class in late April in the snow, 7 months pregnant with my first, and we were all snowed out of a camping trip in May one wacky year. So this isn't so weird. But I will say it almost had me fooled, being SO nice for SO many weeks, and the steady increase in the temperatures and all the spring flowers peeking out ... but then again, daffodils and tulips in snow is a Michigan thing. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to get some nifty flowers-in-the-snow pictures. But at least Michigan is still Michigan, it didn't let me down, and the children won't think I'm crazy for telling them all these weeks not to expect summer quite yet!
