Al & Essie Morris, have entertained country and blues lovers all over America and Canada.

This husband and wife duo can't help but make heads turn when they step out on the stage. They dress for the occasion. At country clubs, Al will probably sport a top hat and tails and Essie a sparkling gown. "Great for dancing...and remembering!" Al & Essie perform the music of Gene Autry, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Kenny Rogers, Buck Owens, and Willie Nelson liberally sprinkled with their original music...songs such as "We've Got Buzzards in The Family Picking Bones," "Gotta Get Your Feet Wet," "Oh Beautiful, Beautiful, Texas" and others like these that are popular among their fans.

 

 

 

 

Their History...

Al & Essie Morris have been known as "Mr. & Mrs. Country Soul" since 1984 when they were granted the title by the Academy of Country Music because of their "soulful" delivery of old traditional country songs.

Al and Essie have always sung from their hearts. Originally known in 1981, as "The Texas Cotton Pickers," they have maintained a deep appreciation for the common roots of country, blues and soul music.

 

 

AL...
Al Morris, guitarist and singer, has been a professional guitarist for Etta James and with her and her stage band for five years.

 

 

 

ESSIE...

Essie is a native hillbilly of Harris Station, North Carolina has an educational background in scientific education, counseling and school administration.
Al & Essie's paths crossed when Essie was working in the Temple High School administration department in Al's hometown of Temple, Texas.

 

 

 

 

 

Their Music...


Selections as Gene Autry's hit "That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine," and Hank Williams, Sr.'s "Love Sick Blues," a classic which gives the listening audience a taste of Al's rich yodeling are examples of selections in their extensive repertoire.

Al & Essie also do the selections of current "greats" such as Merle Haggard, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Charlie Pride, Buck Owens, Willie Nelson and George Jones to name a few.

At Patriotic events, Al and Essie might be dressed in red, white & blue. During formal affairs, Al might be in tails and a top hat with Essie in a fabulous gown sporting sparkling jewelry.

At elementary, middle, high schools and colleges, they'll sometimes dress in the school's colors--often making a difference in the reception by their audiences.
