Take a journey down the " rugged road to freedom" with mZuri. This co-star of the iconoclastic film "Sankofa" tours this stirring off-Broadway presentation with a voice whose power reminds you of a young Mahalia Jackson.

"The Mother of Voting Rights":
Through poetry, prose, song and eloquent storytelling we relive the life of this unsung heroine of human and voting rights in America. Ms. Hamer's story is accented with inspirational freedom songs as mZuri takes the audience from reflective laughter to unintentional tears as we remember what it felt like to be denied the right to vote. mZuri ends the performance imploring the members of the audience to register to vote--and to ensure that they do, provides a display at her presentations with Voter Registration cards for their immediate use. This is a moving performance that cannot help but educate and inspire a new generation of voters.
