Kijana lived in Liberia, West Africa for six years. She originally went to Liberia as a Peace CorpsTeacher Coprs Volunteer working on her master's degree thesis. She liked it and stayed for 6 years--four additional years after her tour was finished.

 While in Liberia, Kijana performed for heads of state, hosted television talk & entertainment shows and specials on ELBC-TV, where she did everything from hosting The Temptations, Mariam Makebe and Hugh Masakela, to interviewing the infamus Idi Amin. She was also assistant principal of the National Liberian Cultural Center School and multi-level drama instructor at the American Cooperative School.

 

 

 

 

 

 Returning to America, Kijana performed with the WABC Workshop chorus, then for five years as a 1st soprano with the Houston Symphony Chorus. After a classical European tour, she sang oratorio with the Houston Masterworks Chorus.

Songs for sacred occasions

Kijana employs her bell-like soprano and 3.5 octave range to celebrate and praise God. Songs include familiar spirituals, gospel, and contemporary Christian music. Selections also include carefully selected secular songs with positive themes (example: "You'll Never Walk Alone," "God Bless the Chile," "Evergreen," Save the Best for Last," etc. Her solo work is perfect for church programs, weddings, funerals, etc. Her full concert makes a great fundraiser!  Playlist...

  A special elementary-age classroom session of dramatic storytelling and theatre. Kijana taught drama in elementary, middle and high school and has written numerous plays and stories that encourage students to reach inside themselves to find the best person they can be. Works includes The Special Something (available as an audiobook and a blog) and other stories that teach a sense of self worth.
       

The Millennium Game
& Other Plays for Teenagers

 

 

  Short one-act plays written specifically for teenagers: The Millennium Game; Getting Over the Hill; Ernie Black; Cognocenti; Skin Deep; The Thom & Geri Show; Leaders and Dreamers; Make My Day; and others. Kijana's plays have been used in annual 5 state regional teen competitions and have won 11 consecutive First Place Awards during a 12 year run. Ms. Wiseman has experience as a director and producer of plays (she used to direct 9 plays a year for ELBC-TV) and is available to work as a director --on a contract basis--with your students.
