First Annual Fishing Tournament On Saturday, May 5, 2007, the KICA Lakes Department hosted the Island's first fishing tournament. This complimentary "catch and release" event was organized for members and their families to enjoy the island's ponds and lakes, share time with neighbors and meet the members of the lakes department.
This year's event had twenty-three participants. Prizes were awarded in four categories: smallest fish, largest fish, largest spottail bass, and most fish caught. The winner of the smallest fish caught was Branden Fortin, with a 6" pinfish. The largest fish was a 20" sheepshead caught by Jerry Wilson. Winning the final two categories was Meam Wilson, who caught a 15" spottail bass and caught a grand total of 11 fish!
The Lakes Department would like to thank the following sponsors for their donations: Seacoast Sports and Outfitters, AquaSafaris, Inc., Dick's Sporting Goods, Possum's Landscape and Pest Control Supply, Vincent's Drug Store & Soda Fountain, Hege's, West Marine, SCDNR and Parrish Lake Management.

Pond 032 is located between Muirefield Lane and Turtle Beach Lane, and is often referred to as Turtle Beach Pond. This pond is not directly connected to the rest of the pond system and is maintained at a different water level than the other ponds, so has no regular source of water. To improve water quality and establish a more regular water level, pond 032 will be undergoing renovation during the winter of 2007-2008. Renovation will entail excavating the pond to provide more depth, and will tie it into the rest of the pond system to provide a more reliable source of water. Shallow underwater shelves are planned for the middle of the pond to provide wading bird habitat. The desire is to mimic the design of Egret and Pintail Ponds with their central areas of shallow water interspersed with emergent vegetation. Work is anticipated to begin mid-January, with completion expected by the end of March.
