Gate Valve Replacement at Ibis, Willet and Bass Ponds
You may have noticed some heavy equipment near the water control structes at Ibis, Willet or Bass Pond. This equipment belongs to Jake Rauch of Rauch Construction, a longtime marine contractor for the Community Association who is replacing the interior gate valves at these ponds. These are the gates that allow the Lakes Management Department to lower the water levels in the lake system in the event of an approaching storm. The original cast iron gates at these locations have not held up due to the highly corrosive salt water conditions. These gates are being replaced with new gates that incorporate stainless steel hardware. The work requires the water level in iIbis and Willet to be temporarily lowered 8-10 inches and is anticipated to be completed by Dec 24th. |
