We are this very elite group known as the Dancing Mongolian Lestats. Let me explain. I once subscribed to the ANNE RICE mailing list and ended up taking a tour of New Orleans with them. Although I am no longer a subscriber (the topics tend to become recycled over time), I have made friends there who I meet in real time and also in cyberspace. Alegna started her own list on which people could fight over who is the best vampire. No longer pretending to intellectual justifications for our preference, we have a regular free-for-all, throwing virtual tomatoes, throwing each other into the swamp. Alegna has introduced this land called "Mu" where the action takes place. It is called the ARMISC Battle List. Angela has also done some killer drawings of some of us denizens of MU. You know how, in The Vampire Lestat, Lestat forms his own rock band? Well, there really is a band called "Lestat." Who knows...
We became "Mongolians" because of this Mongolian love bed in our first bed and breakfast. Here are Liselia and Gwyngie...our first gathering...
A few years ago, six of us gathered at a Bed and Breakfast in San Francisco to play a fantasy role-playing game. This had been arranged by Kathi Haacke, who had just started her own tour-vacation company, Penny Lane Productions (now closed). She has since gone her own way. Hope it's a good one for you, Kathi. While we were there, the Dancing Mongolian Lestats idea was born. I was the only real lover of The Vampire Lestat in the group. The others preferred other vampires. But we thought it would be a great joke on AmadeusMzt (Jilliana DeVenuto), who wrote the role- playing script but didn't come, to tell her we were all Lestats now. See a short video of Angela and a longer one of St. Liselia from that gathering. (Warning, they are slow loading, especially the latter one.)Who the hell are we, anyhoo?
OK. You know what we look like. Now for a little bit about each of us. Bradeleine is a fanatical Brad Pitt fan and Louisian. She wasn't really a worshipper of the until the movie Interview with the Vampire graced our screens. Seeing Brad Pitt in the role of Louis, brought together both kinds of wonderful at once, causing her to realize Brad's divinity. She is also a talented singer with a rich voice, as we discovered in the filming of Cinderlouis (but more about that later). And she has a sense of humor that has us roling in the aisles. Kathi Haacke was the fearless tour guide who actually brought us all together (see below) for the first time. She is a Louisian but much more adventurous than Louis. AmadeusMzt is our warm hearted and hugable Mongolian from the East Coast. A fearless leader of the Louisian faction, she is a true friend. I am the person who put this page together. I am a simple, good-natured Lestatian on even days and a twisted, complex Armandian on odd days. I just joined TURAC. I'm a Web fanatic on every day, working long into the night at my pet project(s). Ginger, otherwise known as Miss Hightower (after the well-known predilection of Armand for towers), is the most devoted Armandian in the bunch. She is also a warm and caring person who knows how to defuse tense situations with a good belly laugh. Liselia, the star of Cinderlouis is now a professional writer and web builder with her own domain name.
Agnela is the genius who created the ARMISC/Spuds battle list and who inspired me to enter my presence on the Web. She is a Louisian with Armandian affiliations. When not working at three jobs, creating web pages, studying biology at UCLA, battling evil roommates or parents, role playing or any of the other countless activities that fill her life, she is challenging me intellectually in her email. St. Liselia is our resident saint and is, of course, a Louisian. A true original and "manly man," our saint has won a place in our hearts due to her unstinting personal honesty and candor.
Comings and Goings
My best friend and lifetime companion, Firebird is a member in good standing but on inactive status. Other new members: Zenia, whom we met at our last San Francisco gathering, and Jellocat who joined us after Zenia.the story continues...
Since that first San Francisco get together, we have met at least once a year (sometimes more than once). A very memorable gathering began at a San Francisco B&B and ended at St. Liselia's family's home at Lake Tahoe. Pictured here is AmadeusMzt, who wrote a role-playing script for our first gathering which she hadn't managed to attend herself. Here, she is at the Tahoe gathering, strumming away. She was a part of us from the beginning but has since parted company with us.
Later to be recruited, was Firebird (more commonly known as Fire), the screeching and cheeching Armandian/Louisian Halo Balm hybrid and SignificantOther important to yours truly. And NOW she has a web page for her poetry. It's really nice. Not pictured here are our three newest members, Zenia, who loves Lestat and Armand, Jellocat, a Louisian, and Karen
At our now legendary Tahoe gathering, our fun included a water fight and the making of a movie called "CinderLouis" starring St. Liselia as CinderLouis,
Bradeleine as the runaway showstealer, "AnneDoraMat," yours truly as "Prince-Aren't-I-Charming?," AmadeusMzt as "Nikki," Ginger as Armand, the evil Step-Monster, and Angela as "David" (no pictures available). Angela did most of the filming with Bradeleine and I filling in during the scenes that she was in. The film will have it's premier showing in New Orleans when the tribe again gets together (but I won't be there). ...more pictures of our glorious gathering...
