First off, one needs to decide what they want respect for. You cannot
be all things to all people. People have conflicting interests and
you're just going to end up looking wishy-washy at best. Besides to
truly earn respect, one needs to focus on the goal. So, pick your main
group of people you wish to be considered highly by. More often than
not, if you stay true to your core group, you will later receive
respect from people outside of that group. ALWAYS bear in mind that
you will never be respected by everyone. Never ever. There will
always be some contrary soul who will oppose you on principle. Accept
this fact and you'll save yourself a lot of grief. Don't be afraid of
not being respected by someone.
