A biting February wind sweeps around your tower, slithering like a snake through the cracks of the window. Its storm parent chases the few remaining shreds of clouds away from the starry night sky, revealing the full moon in all its unearthly splendour. Far off, you hear a lonely, plaintive howl. Knowing that the wolves have been exterminated by the Muggles for centuries in this part of the country, you wonder if it is a stray dog... or a Werewolf who didn't take his Wolfsbane potion tonight.

A soft thud against the window startles you, causing you to spill ink all over your parchment. To your immense relief, you notice that the sound was made by a wind-swept, bedraggled post-owl, carrying something in its claws. Hurriedly, you open the window to give the poor creature sanctuary from the angry elements. Grateful, the bird drops its burden on your desk. You pick it up, and read:

Welcome, fellow Serpents and honoured guests, to the first issue of the SerpenTimes!

This "moonly" magazine ( released every full moon ) is going to be the forum for the Slytherins of HOL: a place where we can make our opinions heard, and share our knowledge and talents. Unlike the SpellBinder, the SerpenTimes is a place made for and by Slytherins, which means the articles and opinions have a definite Slytherin "slant". Anybody is welcome to read our magazine, and of course there will be no material violating the rules of HOL and the HOL Forum, but you will have to keep in mind that it is all written from a Slytherin perspective!

In this premiere issue we have a lot of diverse material, from opinions and articles on facts to poems, humour and even a couple of competitions! Many of the active Slytherins have contributed with writing, performing HTML-spells, creating designs and coming up with ideas, and the result is definitely something we can all be proud of! Even though I don't claim to possess any divination talents whatsoever, I can say with confidence that this outpouring of creativity and enthusiasm bodes well for the future of the House of Slytherin!
