I grew up in Lake Jackson, Tx., moving to Houston in 1986 to attend
the University of Houston. I came to Northwest Houston in 1997,
choosing at that time to make teaching piano the focus of my career.
In an age of easy comforts, pleasures and fun, I hope to channel
that fun, through the discipline of learning the piano, toward the
deeper enjoyment obtained through hard work and the creation of
beautiful and exhilarating musical experiences.

As a pianist, I have performed in a variety of roles, including
the following:
I was also Music Director for the HITS
theatre school from 1995 to 1997. In 1999, I became Associate Music
Director for HITS, substituting
for the primary Music Director & performing as Music Director
for outreach programs and the HITS day-time classes for home-schooled
students. |

After initially attending Baylor University on a scholarship in
music composition, I attended the University of Houston where I
earned a B.M. in Music Composition and a M.M. in Music Theory. While
at UH, I studied piano with Nancy
Weems and Robert Brownlee, composition with Dr.
Michael Horvit, and piano and composition with the eminent opera
composer, Carlisle
Floyd.

I was the recipient of the Young Artist Recognition Award in the
National Federation
of Music Clubs 1989 Young Composers Competition and the Cultural
Arts Council of Houston's 1992 Grant Award for Composition.
I am a member of the Associated
Board of the Royal Schools of Music,
American College of Musicians/National Guild of Piano Teachers,
and a former member of Houston
Music Teachers Association, for which I have served as Piano
Contest Chair, Treasurer, Jazz-Pop Festival Chair and Website designer/webmaster. In
May, 2001, I received the HMTA President's Bravo Award and in May
2003, I received the HMTA Teacher Service Award. In 2005, I transferred
my membership to Cypres
Creek Music Teachers Association, having served as Program Chair
and on the Piano Contest & Yearbook Committees.
