Formartine and Buchan Way

The Formartine and Buchan Way is an old railway line which ran from Dyce, north of Aberdeen to Fraserburgh and Peterhead. The railway closed in 1965 and was converted into a walking and cycling pathway for leisure use.

Research was conducted through a survey with local community councils and user groups into the current use of the route. Investigation was also made through individuals, who at one time had direct involvement with the railway line and held memories and narratives associated with the area.

As a result of this research a design strategy was produced outlining the current issues of usage by stakeholders and potential usage by visitors.

A strategy for the promotion of the route to two users groups was then presented to Aberdeenshire Council. This led to the design of a guide, maps and information panels.

All research, strategic analysis, written content and visualisation was produced by ARC.
