SANDALS, Negril

I'm trying a new Photo displaying technique on this page. Unlike the Montego Bay pictures, this will be a story w/ links to the pictures. Best viewed w/ 800x600 res.

NEW
These are the photos from the last roll
Every Sandals has a map of the Resort. Here, my beautiful wife models the map of Sandals Negril.

Kristy & I quickly found our favorite Restaurant. It was called the "SunDowner". We ate about every breakfast there. They had AWESOME bacon, & we discovered a new food. Basically, it was a cooked apple, w/ raisens stuffed in it. It was excellent!!! We're going to try & make it in the "states". We also ate dinner there about every night.

Sandals Negril had beautiful grounds. I guess they have to b/c they do so many weddings. Speaking of weddings, Kristy & I might renew our vows on our 5th anniversary trip to Sandals!!!! Anyway, Kristy chose to model in the Wedding Gazebo, and I chose to model by the Koi pond, infront of the gazebo.

One thing that's cool about Sandals, is that they support the local economy in alot of different ways. One of the ways is that they invite local craftsmen in for the day to pedal their "wares". Here's a picture of Kristy thinking about buying something. Personally, I found the prices in the Bahamas much better than Negril. See that light brown thing to Kristy's left? It's 5 birds sitting in a tree....Anyway, the guy wanted $995.00 for it !!!!!! And it's made out of Cedar! We bought a Mahagony parrot in the Bahamas for $15.00 !!!

A constant throughout ALL of the Sandals we've been to, is the excellent food. My favorite feature of the buffet tables, are miniature "rastafarian" men, placed next to each item on the buffet table. It's not a great picture, but you get the idea. They've been everywhere we've been, and one of them MIGHT make it back to Charlotte on our next trip.

END of NEW Section
Update on Camera & Black Line...Ends up I had sticky stuff on my shutter, thus the shutter wasn't moving out of the way fast enough for the picture.
One month & $100.00 later, it should be fixed..kf

Our room was great. It was the top level room, with the living area downstairs, and the master bedroom upstairs. The way to get upstairs was via a spiral staircase. (You'll notice a big black divider going down the middle of the picture. What happened I don't know, but that black divider is the star of LOTS of my Negril pictures. It's so bad, I've decided to take a photography class this fall @ Queens College.)
Our room was directly on the beach, from our porch we could see, smell & hear the ocean.

We were also very close to the main pool. That's Kristy in the foreground chair. While I played pool volleyball, Kristy entered beer chugging contests. (actually, only one, "just for the points..." she'll tell you). Well, she actually WON!!!! Here's a picture winning the final. You can see how far ahead she was of the other girl. After she won, I had to present the prize to her. A Red Stripe beer mug, made out of bamboo.

This picture doesn't really belong in this bunch, but it was on the roll, & it's such a good picture. It's me, flying a kite in Mount Pleasant, SC. I was "hamming it up" for the camera, the wind really wasn't that strong on that day. It has, however, been known to drag me on my butt about 30 feet. (Inside joke...those who KNOW, KNOW)

Kristy & I went snorkeling a few times, always in the morning, b/c Negril would always get rough in the afternoon. And the light was better in the morning for snorkeling. We'd wake up in the morning & the sky was beautiful, not a cloud in sight. Come lunchtime, the clouds would start moving in. It was really rather "floridaesk". Darker clouds would settle between 4 & 6 every afternoon. We only had rain for two hours on Thursday. Returning from snorkeling, you can see the resort in the background. Sandals has painted the main building a beautiful subtle orange color. The brochures have the main building as white.

The nighttime entertainment was the best @ Negril !!! (versus MoBay & Royal Bahamian) There were fire-breathers, great singing, & local artists doing amazing things w/ bikes, & milk jugs. We entered a Couples contest & came in second place. (Picture coming soon). The food was good, we shyed away from the buffet at night & prefered eating @ the Sundowner Restaurant. (Pictures coming soon). Lunch was always buffet style. I was slightly disappointed w/ the buffet, it was limited, compared to MoBay & Royal Bahamian. Kristy & I LOVE to do cheese & crackers & stuff @ lunchtime. The cheeses consisted of Blue Cheese, Gouda, Pepper Jack, & some Brie (but not everyday, or very good for that matter). Their meats for sandwiches were limited to turkey, ham, & peppered roast beef. I, however, was LIVING for salami, and there was none to be found! (Hey, we're on vacation, we can eat wine & cheese EVERYDAY for lunch if we want to....)

Activities were GREAT, except for some misprinted scheduling times. I played volleyball everyday, either Beach or Pool. However, on Thursday, I twisted my ankle playing beach volley ball & it swelled pretty badly. The only bad thing about that accident was that I was ASKED by playmakers to play in the HEDONISM vs SANDALS beach volleyball tournament. I had to turn it down. I would have liked to "check-out" the Hedo crowd.....

The staff was excellent, though not as helpful & "Happy" as MoBay or Royal Bahamian. They were more than happy to take a picture for us.
A few extraneous pictures....
Me flexing in the pool.
A self-portrait.
Another self portrait.
Me sticking my tongue out in the pool.

I took some pictures w/ a panoramic camera.
Another self portrait.
Two pictures of our room. The first one is our room with the rows of other rooms. The second one is a picture w/ our room & the beach in it. You can barely see Kristy on the balcony. You can also get a view of the Typical afternoon clouds in Negril (while we were there). The building in-front of our room is The Four C's restaurant. It's the "Calorie Counter" Restaurant, which stir-fries your food for you. Okay, we only ate there once....

More pics when I shoot the rest of the roll in the camera
