| Letter to President of the IOC Coordination Commission | | Date Created: 23 Apr, 2007, 05:35 PM |
Dear President of the IOC Coordination Commission Verburggen,
I am writing to urge you to reject China's proposal to run the
Olympic torch over Mount Everest and through Tibet in the lead
up to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. I understand that the
International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be announcing its
decision regarding the final torch route on Thursday, April 26th
2007.
As you are aware, Tibet was illegally invaded and occupied by
China in 1949 and Tibetans have suffered under a brutal military
occupation for decades. By running the torch through what the
Associated Press recently called "politically charged
territory", the Chinese government hopes to legitimize its claim
to Tibet and to cover up its violent and repressive rule over
the Tibetan people.
It is unconscionable for the IOC to allow China to use the
Olympic Games to further strengthen its hold over Tibet.
The global community expects the IOC to uphold the ideals of
peace and friendship that the Olympic torch is meant to
symbolize. Allowing China to run the torch through Tibet not
only undermines these ideals in the worst possible way, but also
shows a complete disregard for the suffering of six million
Tibet people.
Please do the right thing now and ensure the 2008 Olympic Games
are not used by the Chinese government as a political tool to
further entrench its control over Tibet.
The whole world is watching.
Sincerely,
Kevin Read |

| Tell IOC No Torch through Tibet! | | Date Created: 23 Apr, 2007, 05:27 PM |
What's At Stake:
Since winning the bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games, the Chinese government has waged a strategic propaganda campaign to convince the international community that it is a modern and progressive country that should be recognized as a world leader. Part of this strategy is to silence the Tibetan freedom movement by showing Tibetans as a "happy minority" in the great and multi-ethnic Chinese family, with the Chinese government as both a protector and promoter of Tibetan culture. For example, television ads for tourism to China around the 2008 Olympics show picturesque scenes of Tibetans dancing and singing and the famous Samye monastery in central Tibet.
In the same vein, China hopes to use the Olympic torch relay, one of the most important events in the lead up to the Games, to further entrench its claim over Tibet by running the torch over Mount Everest and through Tibet. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be releasing its final decision on the proposed torch route by April 26th 2007.
Tibetans and their supporters are speaking out against this plan to run the torch through Tibet and calling on the IOC to ensure the 2008 Olympic Games are not used by the Chinese government to legitimize and cover up its repressive rule in Tibet. |

| A paper by James Read, Jacque Read, Dean Read, Kevin Read and Andrew Read. Ubiquitous epistemologies and sensor networks have garnered limited interest from both security experts and computational biologists in the last several years. In our research, we validate the deployment of the UNIVAC computer, which embodies the important principles of wired cryptoanalysis. In this paper, we present new omniscient algorithms (Pau), which we use to demonstrate that Smalltalk and the transistor can collude to realize this purpose. |

Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, Tibet's 11th Panchen Lama, was adbucted on May 17th, 1995, along with his parents. The Chinese government admitted in 1996 that they are holding him in "protective custody." The Panchen Lama is one of Tibet's most important spiritual leaders. He is growing up under house arrest.
Numerous requests from governments, human rights organisations, and the United Nations to see him have been denied, and his health and whereabouts are unknown. The Chinese government appointed another boy as the Panchen Lama in place of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima. He is kept in Beijing and appears periodically at official functions. |

| Jamie Oliver’s favourite curry sauce | | Date Created: 12 Mar, 2005, 06:42 PM |
Ingredients
5 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp fenugreek seeds
3 fresh green chillies, deseeded and thinly sliced
1 handful curry leaves
2 thumb-sized pieces of fresh ginger, peeled and coarsely grated
3 onions, peeled and chopped
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric
6 tomatoes, chopped
1x400ml/14fl oz tin coconut milk
salt
For the fish version:
4x225g/8oz fresh haddock fillets, skinned and pin-boned
1 knob tamarind paste or 1 tsp tamarind syrup
1 large handful baby spinach (optional)
1 good handful fresh coriander, chopped (optional)
For the chicken version:
4 chicken breasts, sliced into 1cm/ ½ in strips
1 tbsp coriander seeds, crushed
For the vegetarian version:
800g/1¾lb mixed vegetables, chopped (potatoes, courgettes, peppers, onions, sweet potatoes, spinach, chard, cauliflower, lentils, beans - use your imagination)
Method
1. Heat the oil in a pan, and when hot add the mustard seeds. Wait for them to pop, then add the fenugreek seeds, fresh green chillies, curry leaves and ginger, Stir and fry for a few minutes.
2. Using a food processor, chop the onions and add to the same pan. Continue to cook for five minutes until the onion is light brown and soft, then add the chilli powder and turmeric.
3. Using the same food processor, pulse the tomatoes and add these to the pan. Cook for a couple of minutes then add one or two wine glasses of water and the coconut milk. Simmer for about five minutes until it has the consistency of double cream, then season carefully with salt.
4. Take this sauce as a base. To make the fish curry, add the fish and tamarind to the sauce and simmer for six minutes. Feel free to add some baby spinach and chopped coriander at the end of the cooking time.
5. For the chicken version, stir-fry the chicken strips and coriander seeds until lightly coloured, then add to your sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
6. For the vegetarian version, simply add all your veg to the sauce at the beginning when you add your onions. Continue to cook as normal and simmer until tender. |
