Variations for Piano Solo Notes by composer The Variations were premiered in 1972 by pianist Cinda Goold Redman. A stark, nine-measure theme is followed by four variations; the work concludes with a restatement of the theme. Intense, tightly contrapuntal and virtuosic, the brief (ca. 8 minutes) Variations has been recorded by Ralph Grierson on Lauridsen: Northwest Journey (RCM).
