Sam's Legacy
Sam was born on November 6, 2000, following an otherwise normal and healthy pregnancy. Minutes after Sam was born, the doctors discovered that he suffered from a heart defect, called Transposition of the Great Arteries. Immediately after birth, he was transported to a nearby pediatric hospital while his mother recovered at Lankanau's maternity ward. Despite the medications, the breathing tube, and all the machines, we never thought Sam could die. We were overjoyed at the birth of our first child and began making plans to bring him home. Shortly after Sam’s heart surgery, there were major complications. He was placed in his father’s arms where he died while being told how much he was loved.
Unfortunately, our family had no other choice but to be separated during this tragic time of crisis. This made the situation all the more difficult and the subsequent grief process even harder. This year's Sammy Bowl is in support of the world's first delivery unit located inside of a pediatric hospital. this eliminates the need for transport and allows family's (especially mothers) the ability to remain with their babies. Please visit the website explaining the important work being done to construct this Special Delivery Unit.

Sammy Bowl has become a Southeastern Pennsylvania tradition. Sammy Bowl has been written about in Delaware County Daily Times and covered by NBC 10.
In the past, Sammy Bowl has raised funds that have had a significant positive impact on the lives of families who grieve for their lost children.
This year, Sammy Bowl proceeds will help insure that the babies with identified birth defects get the care they need while remaining with their families. We know that he looks down on us proudly as we have a celebration with a fun-filled event and friends and family.
We love him dearly and miss him. He is forever in our hearts.
