Osaka's Local Tendency

Osaka is Japan's second largest city and there are many things to see (Please click Read More)

Masayo and I went to Osaka last Sunday. This time we walked around 'southern part' of the central Osaka, and I saw things which dramatically changed and stubbornly un-changed.

It has been said that people of Kansai (western) region, especially those in Osaka, hate to queue, especially for food. I guess the concept of 'first food' was accepted earlier in Osaka than in Tokyo. (I think I have read an article about the first Japanese 'first food' was invented in Osaka. It is 'kitsune udon', noodle in warm soup with very limited topping.) I am one of those who rather look for somewhere else when there is a queue in front of a restaurant I intended to go.

Things have changed, they queue now, especially for Ramen noodle. There are a lot of information concerning Ramen and people travels to try some of famous ones. There are also Ramen complexes in in some big cities where branches of the well-known ramen restaurants get together. This time we queued for Kamukura, which started from Osaka and has opened its branch in Tokyo recently. We didn't have to wait too long as they now know how to handle the waiting list.

I wanted to take a photo of the people waiting to be called, but I dare not to do so as I know how people get rough when they are hungry!

One of the things which has not changed is that the display along the street. You will find fish, crabs, dragons etc etc along the shopping streets in this area, and I found some new ones. The photo on the top is a doll standing in a glasses store.

The cat below was put at the door of an Ukiyoe paintings museum.

There are also people in strange clothes with strange behaviour, but you should come and look for yourself!
