Park Life

A park is a perfect place to spend a sleepy Sunday afternoon. (Please click Read More)

Kana, a friend of Masayo's, visited us this weekend. We had a very big meal and drink last night, and stayed up late. We therefore got up very late this morning, and could not think of going out somewhere far. Today was a sunny and warm October Sunday, so we decided to go to Nishikyogoku Sports Park nearby. It is a big park with a baseball field, a field track and Kyoto Aquarena (a very big swimming pool used for international competition).

We know there is a vast grass area around the Aquarena, so we brought a big plastic sheet and spent some lazy time on it, as seen on the photo on the top of this entry. The sky was clear, the sun light made us feel warm, dogs were running around... very good time without spending money! We also could hear some sound from the baseball field: there was an annual match between Doshisha University and Ritsumeikan University. As we three all graduated Doshisha, we were kind of supporting our university but could not see how the match was going on...

Nishikyogoku is located in the western periphery of the central Kyoto ('nishi' means west, so I guess 'kyogoku' means 'end of Kyoto') and I sometimes feel inconvenient to live here as I need to ride a bike for some minutes to buy books, CDs etc. But the lazy afternoon spent in the sports park nearby made me think like it is a privilege to live in this area. Not so many people have a big park like this in the walking distance!

By the way, what Alpay said to Beckham has been translated to Japanese in various ways. The funniest translation I have find so far is 'Your mother has protruding navel'. I think the f-word has nothing to do with the bellybutton and Alpay never meant to say so. Anyway insulting varies in different places!
