Ron Loyd, the "Bubble Man" entertained kids at the Fred C. Fischer Library on Tuesday, delighting the audience with his bubble magic.
Ron Loyd is forever bubbles. Big ones, small ones, square ones and bubbles inside of bubbles inside of other bubbles.
This of course is the calling of a true "bubblologist."
The Bubble Man is the alter ego of Loyd who also is the director of NorthfieldTownship Library in Whitmore Lake. No doubt Loyd is right at home among the stacks at the Fred C. Fischer Library where he appeared on Tuesday as part of the highly successful Discover New Trails program.
Loyd--with the help of his assistant, the lovely and effervescent Michele Moore--captivated a packed house of children young and old who hung on every bubble as if it would explode like the Hindenberg should it hit the ground.
Loyd says there's a common misconception that glycerin is a necessary additive to the bubble mix.
"It's expensive and only makes bubbles last a half second longer," he said.
The Bubble Man blew remarkable teddy bear sculptures, walked a bubble down a string and even created a bubble model of the plant Saturn with bubble rings, no less.
Jessica Kozlowski was the winner of the raffle at the library's summer reading event on Tuesday.
If you have children and aren't taking advantage of the library's wonderful programs you are not only missing some great free family entertainment, your children are missing out on a chance to interact with kids their own age and get exposed to things they never will experience by watching television.
Next week is the wrap up of the Discover New Trails program and Children's Services director Kelly Skinner promises surprises inside and out at the library next Tuesday at 11 a.m.
