Welcome to the Engineers of Tomorrow's Homepage
The EOT won 3rd place in the Programming category at the 2008 FIRST LEGO League World Festival.

The FIRST World Festival was a great experience—exciting, competitive, and fun! Over 20 FLL teams had either a 395 or 400 in at least one round. (Which means they all had perfect runs, but the 395s got beat to the satellite.) We scored 395, 395 and 295 in our three rounds, were called back and won an award for our programming, and in general had a fantastic time in Atlanta. Here we are with the teams that beat us to the satellite (The East Asian Stars from Shang Hai, China, and the Gear Geeks from Georgia, USA).

Sound Artist Megan Hall and photographer Ryan Conaty created a neat audio slideshow about the EOT and the FIRST LEGO League. The folks at LEGO Education said it was "a great overview of the FLL experience."

Our research project was a movie based on our energy audit of the Providence Children's Museum:

The EOT scored 390, 385 and 355 in the robot game, winning robot performance. You can read our tech manual for more information about our robot and programming.

Here is our 390 run in Round #2.

Their average is 371 out of 400 with their robot in practice. You can click on the clip below to watch a 400 point run:

The EOT conducted an energy audit of the Providence Children's Museum for their FLL POWER Puzzle Project. They toured the museum on 10/30, and are busy analyzing the Museum's utility bills. The EOT will present their plan to improve energy efficiency and conservation at the museum at the FIRST LEGO League Championship Tournament on January 12, 2008 at Roger Williams University.

On September 16, the EOT met Dr. Stephen Hamburg of Brown University to discuss how to be an energy guerilla. Dr. Hamburg is the guy who convinced Walmart to heavily market, and install in their stores, compact flourescent bulbs.

On August 17, Dom Joseph Byron, O.S.B. gave the EOT team a tour of the Portsmouth Abbey's Wind Turbine. It's been up and running since March 2006, and has produced over 1.5 million KW hours of electricity. The power the Abbey doesn't use is sold back to the grid. Br. Joseph taught us how the turbine works, showed us the safety features that shut it off if the wind is too strong or if there is a power emergency in the nearby sub station. The final picture is of the inside of the wind turbine, looking up.

This website documents the EOT's progress during the POWER PUZZLE season, explores our past experience in the FLL; lists information on the Engineers of Tomorrow LEGO Robotics classes; and provides links and advice for new coaches and teams.
