About the
Machines:
These
professional bubble making tools are built on toy
bodies. The
bodies and heating elements are manufactured by Zero Toys.
Although very durable, their workings are finely tuned
systems of engineering. The tiny fog generators are hand
assembled, requiring high magnification. Therefore, each
machine will have its own performance characteristics.
They wear
out. There
is no guaranteed operational lifetime for these machines. I
test each unit numerous times during the build and
immediately before boxing it up to send to you. A few of
mine have lived for years and are still fogging well. A
couple of mine broke in one day. Most machines go somewhere
in between. However, they will all wear out, break down or
stop working for some reason eventually. There is
no way to
predict the performance or lifetime of
individual machines. Hard working pros doing 300+ shows a
year and casual hobbyists at home should expect these
Foggers to remain operational for many weeks or many months
or much longer. Accept this before you make a
purchase.
Make peace
with the fact that your machine may only last a very short
time, especially if you drop it, your kid drops it while
you are not looking, you leave it on by mistake, use
non-Zero fog fluid with it, forget to dry your hands of
soap solution before handling the machine or any number of
modes of ill-teatment. These are surprisingly tough
machines and plenty of pros tour the country and world with
them in their suitcases. Treat the machines well and they
will live longer. But there is never any guarantee written
or expressed concerning how long they will
function.
The
fog generated by these machines is able to activate smoke
detectors. Use with caution.
The fluid these machines use is slippery. Wipe up any
spills.
The glue I use: I assemble using Duco Cement. A multi-purpose, nitro cellulose household cement. This is the adhesive recommended and used by Zero Toys. I also use hot melt glue in a couple of different places.
If you wish to modify your machine, attach things to it or if you wish to fill in Fog escaping seam cracks that might occur in transit or by rough handling, there is no better glue for the job that I've tested. There are other glues that will work, especially if you are not altering the structural integrity of the machine. Contact cement is a good option.
Tool marks & scratches: You should expect to see a superficial scratch or two, but they are becoming less frequent. I use a variety of power tools when assembling your machines. High speed rotary tools, drills, clamps, sand paper... they all come into play as I sculpt the machine to reshape it to fit your requirements and then attach alternatively fabricated parts. A scratch on top of the LED compartment is especially difficult to avoid. I just wanted to be up-front about this. I never ship machines that are scratched badly enough that I would not use them in my own shows or photo opportunities.
How to help your machine live longer:
"Baby it" in every way you can imagine.
Turn it off. Do not leave the unit switched on when not in use. After only a few minutes of being left on but without being used to make fog, the heating element may become irreperably damaged.
The “Empty” Chamber and Plug. Of the two holes in the machine’s body, one is marked “Fill” (where you will add fog fluid) and the other is labeled “Empty”. The “Empty” chamber collects the residue of condensed vapor inside the fog production housing. It will also collect soap bubble fluid that might happen to back-flow into the fog production housing. The “Empty” chamber will need to be drained from time to time to ensure proper working order of the machine. You will see fluid building up inside the chamber through the translucent material of the body of the machine. See: Do not reuse fog solution & To remove fluid from the chamber marked “Empty” both below on this page.
Do not reuse fog solution from Empty Side. I do not recommend reusing the liquid you will remove from the collection chamber marked "Empty". This will likely contain a blend of fog solution and soap bubble solution.
Keep upright. Fog solution will drain from the solution chamber into the workings of your machine if it is placed on it's side. This may damage your machine.
Remove fog fluid and batteries. If you will not be using your Fogger for more than one week, remove batteries and drain the fog solution to avoid potential damage to your Fogger in storage.
Do not inhale the fog or drink the fog juice. Both the fog liquid and the resulting vapor have successfully passed international tests in order that they be included for sale with toys. Do not drink it because it tastes bad. Do not inhale the vapor because any liquid vapor may trigger asthmatic reactions, especially those people who suffer this condition.
Tips and Troubleshooting:
Decreasing Vapor Output. You need fresh batteries, most likely. The Fogger slows down before it stops. Or, maybe you haven't let it warm up, you are running low on solution or need to empty the "Empty" chamber. Perhaps, you are pressing the trigger a little too lightly?
How long will one container of Fog Fluid last? Newbies tend to go through it faster than you will once you figure out how hard to pull the trigger. Squeezing too hard or too long or too often only wastes the fluid. Shouldn't be reused. If I had to give you a number I'd say one container will give you 3-5 hours of pleasure to start. Just don't go trigger happy. Many more hours after you get used to the device.
If this is your first fogger I would order an extra bottle of fluid or two at the same time. They are only $4 and I can throw them right in the box and not have to charge S&H. Once I send the foggers to you, your source for Fog Juice will be ZeroToys.com. I just don't have time to be sending out tiny orders.
The yellow trigger depresses a bulb inside the machine which drive small amounts of Fog Fluid up into the Vapor Generator. Make sure your machine has been “on” for at least 15 seconds to ensure the heating element is ready to receive the Fluid.
Depressing the yellow trigger before the machine is warmed up, or depressing it too often or deeply durning use (which sends a surplus of fluid to the generator) will cause an excess of Fog Fluid to top-out of the fog generator and spill down to the floor of the fog production housing. The fluid will then drain into the fluid collection chamber labeled “Empty”. This chamber, when 2/3 full will need to be emptied.
To remove fluid from the chamber marked “Empty”, remove the plug from just this chamber leaving the “Fill” plug in place. Tilt the machine so the open chamber is facing down and shake gently to allow gravity to spill the collected fluid out into a sink or onto a towel.
If your machine fails to produce fog, install fresh batteries and fill the solution reservoir marked “Fill”.
When the machine is switched on via the switch slide on the base, an led lights up in the handle.
When the led light in the handle does not light, it usually means you need new batteries.
It may also mean your machine is broken and will not generate fog.
It may also mean your fog generator is still working fine but the led wire has come loose.
If the machine still makes fog but the light does not work, I do not suggest taking the machine apart just to fix the light.
Occasionally the heating element will fail even as the led will brighten when the machine is turned on. Try fresh batteries and liquid before pronouncing the toy “dead”.
Safety and Clean-Up.
The vapor created by this machine can be dense enough to interrupt or break the light or laser beam in some smoke and/or fire type detectors in public or private buildings. In fact, a variant of this machine is used to test the capabilities of some installed smoke/fire type detectors. Make sure to keep vapor-filled bubbles away from such sensitive electronics. Knowing this, I have been cautious and have never experienced such a problem myself.
In fact, I am always careful to check for and make note of smoke or fire detection device locations around any indoor area where I will be making foggy bubbles. This is something you need to do too. Know where the exits are as well. You will be one person who helps to direct others in the room to the nearest emergency exit in the event of an alarm.
Soap Solution and Fog Fluid are slippery liquids. Be sure to clean up any spills immediately with absorbent materials & warm water. If you find warm water and absorbent materials do not completely remove the spill, a dilution of vinegar (10+ parts water to 1 part white kitchen vinegar) may be used carefully to complete clean up. Rinse with pure water and wipe dry as your last step.
Do not make your bubbles near stairs, ramps, on unprotected hardwood or hard surfaces. High foot traffic areas should also be avoided.
Do not drink the fog fluid. It would take an enormous quantity of it to make you feel really bad, but a bottle of it (I've been told) is enough to give you bowel upset. So if a kid accidently drinks it, do not worry. It will pass.
The machine's exterior and the tubes shipped with the machine may be cleaned with warm water and dried with a soft cloth.
When not in use, the tubes should be removed from the machine to allow for air circulation with-in the fog production chamber.
