Kormaphobia (n.)
The fear that, despite quite enjoying such dishes
in the privacy of one's own home, one will be teased, excluded from polite
society and generally thought of as being a wuss if one orders any dish that is
classed as ‘mild’ in an Indian or other far-Eastern
restaurant.
Extreme cases of kormaphobia can lead to
consumption of excess quantities of Chicken Vindaloo or Madras with extra chilli
sauce, leading to considerable pain and suffering, particularly when going to
the lavatory afterwards. Sufferers often prepare for such extreme spiciness by
priming the stomach with copious quantities of alcohol, although it should be
noted that this also has a tendency to exacerbate the inevitable after-effects
the following morning.
Not to be
confused with ‘karmaphobia’.
