Cult of stupid, the (n.)
The cult of stupid is the organisation to which
people who are by nature reasonably intelligent, but have nonetheless
deliberately decide not to be, belong.
The first rule of the cult of stupid is that you
must not talk about the cult of stupid. The second law of the cult of stupid is
that you must not talk about the cult of stupid. And so on, and so forth. In
fact, most ‘stupidites’, as they are called, don't even get past the
first law and are quite happy with just the one, as it makes life very, very
simple, which is exactly what they are aiming for. However, it is a widely
acknowledged fact that joining the cult of stupid also makes one's life tedious,
unsatisfactory, and—not to put too fine a point on it—completely
pointless.
What members of the cult of
stupid—or ‘stupidites’, as they are sometimes
called—hate is when people who are at least as intelligent as they are try
to make use of their abilities in a constructive or interesting way. This, they
say, is just a waste of everybody's time, and we should all just go back to
climbing trees, rolling about in the mud, or whatever the hell else it was that
we were doing before certain people started getting ideas above their station.
This sentiment is enshrined in the oft-repeated mantra of ‘Get a
life’, and is the reason why stupidites are opposed to all forms of
success and public displays of competence.
