Moreauphobia (n.)
A strong and irrational fear of animals (cartoon
or otherwise) dressed up to look like as humans, particularly the ones that walk
around on their hind legs in total defiance of terrestrial biology. (Ugh!
Someone get me a hammer!)
Pronounced ‘more-row-phobia’, the
condition derives its name from the H G Wells novel,
The Island of Doctor
Moreau, in which various animals were cruelly
given human features by a twisted old surgeon who liked sewing bits of different
creatures together. In many cases, sufferers have acquired this affliction from
reading the aforementioned novel at too early and impressionable an
age.
Not to be confused with
‘morosophobia’.
