Garp (v.)
To burp or fart accidentally and without advance
warning because you had no prior knowledge that you were about to do
so.
The propensity to gaster is proportional to age,
and increases dramatically upon reaching about 50, although incidences have been
noted in individuals as young as 24. If one is lucky enough to reach the even
more advanced age of 70, you can look forward to gastering eventually giving way
to ‘gastering’—a phenomenon with which it should not be
confused where one increasingly loses control of one's own bodily emissions and
ability to even notice.
The only polite
way to recover from unexpected bouts of garping (and indeed, there is no other
kind) is to laugh it off saying ‘Ooops, where did that come from?’,
or to try and blame it on the dog, although this is seldom convincing,
especially if one doesn't own a dog.
