Gaster (v.)
To burp or fart accidentally and without
realising that you have done it.
Not to be confused with ‘garping’,
gastering generally occurs when an elderly relative sits down or moves about
rather suddenly, causing an unforeseen flatulence event (or UFE, as they are
sometimes known). However, unlike garping, the individual concerned neither
seems to know nor care that such an event has taken place and will happily
continue about their daily business, oblivious to the embarrassment and
wrinkling of noses that is usually
caused.
A propensity for gastering may
lead younger family members to make unkind remarks, such as ‘I don't want
to go kiss Grandma, she smells!’, but this is only to be expected, and
consolation may be taken from the fact that they will themselves most likely
suffer from exactly the same affliction in old age, as gastering is known to be
a congenital condition.
