Off Mumbles Road

Welcome to our web site.

The quotation on the Home Page is from the Welsh poet, author, playwright, essayist and screenwriter, Dylan Thomas, and the pictures are of Mumbles, located on the southeastern end of the Gower Peninsula, at the edge of Swansea, the place of Dylan Thomas' birth. A mouse click on the map of Swansea Bay will take you to the web site of the Carlton Hotel, where we stay, when we're there. Mumbles is a holiday and vacation spot for a lot of Welsh folks. It's also Dave's favourite place on the planet, outside of his garden in Brooklyn.

"Off Mumbles Road" is really two web sites in one:

"Cousins"
and
"Emily 'n Dave's Place".

As in most parts of this web site, the pictures on this page are portals to new pages. Always check the pictures, even if they don't look like links. We've tried to make the text links stand out from the context, but sometimes because of the different ways in which browsers treat color, they're not so obvious. It's a bit like "Mad Magazine", where you can find all sorts of interesting bits tucked away in the corners. Experiment. The pictures on this page will take you to information about the Cousins, Emily and Dave's Place, and Emily and Dave themselves. Information about browsers and formatting is in the Cousins webnotes.

"Cousins", the original web site, began as a family address book for all the first cousins of the family of James and Sophie Booth, periodically mailed out to her cousins (and some of their children) by Mary Emily (Booth) Thomas after the first Booth Cousins Reunion, and like Topsy, "it jes' growed", especially after a few interested cousins began suggesting things that they'd like to see there. "Cousins" is now a collection of family trees, and we call it an orchard.

Unfortunately, it is no longer a family address book. For more information on this subject see the "Cousins" webnotes.

After the wake-up call of the attack on the World Trade Center, we decided to publicly examine the foreign policy that led us to the tragedy and other aspects of American government that had begun to worry us, and we created "How Things Work". (The Constitution, the rock on which the house of America is built, guarantees us the right to do this, in its first amendment.) And then, because we felt that people would like to know just who it is that was doing this examination, we created "Emily 'n Dave's Place", to let people know who we are and how we live. At this point it became clear that the family business and the public business were two different things and we made them different parts of the same site, which we call
"Off Mumbles Road".
